I bet the good majority of you, if not all of you, began reading this thinking you were about to dive into some key tricks to becoming successful and financially rich. Everyone wishes that there were set in stone steps to getting rich, but unfortunately that is not the case. On top of that, having all the money in the world does not make you truly wealthy. To be wealthy in life aspects far beyond finances play a part. One's health, personal development, relationships, and happiness along with finances are all aspects that contribute to how truly wealthy one is. I'm not saying to not strive for that promotion, for example, but don't make financial gain the number one motivator for doing so. Reflect on why you may want that promotion. Will it mean more money in the bank, but less time to be spent on the things you love? Will it be something that will bring you joy to be a part of regardless of how much more money you may be paid? Don't forget to ask yourself the possible detriment it may have on your life overall. Simply put if one focus’s too much on monetary gain it may end up being harmful to the other arguably more important aspects of life. However, in the end when all the self-reflection is said and done, I say if you truly desire something work your ass off til' it's yours.
Physical wealth, or health, is crucial to being successful in the other facets of life. This why investing in your body and mind is where true wealth cultivates. The healthier one is physically the better one can work to achieve wealth in each aspects life, even financially. The more time and attention one spends expanding their mind, the more capable they may become to find success in their careers which may coincidentally lead to financial health. Taking the time to grow your mind is also one way that benefits one’s personal development. Getting a job promotion may mean more money and a larger workload, but it doesn’t necessarily always mean one has grown as a person. Continuing to make personal growth a priority as we age is important. Working to conduct frequent self-assessments and looking for opportunities to develop yourself is critical to getting the most out of life. Force yourself out of your comfort zone, work on not only your weaknesses but also your strengths, and always make on effort to improve your self-awareness. Developing ones mind also can benefit one’s relationships with those around them, for example by widening one’s knowledge of emotional intelligence.
- Daily Health Tip: Go for a walk. Maybe while listening to an informational podcast.
- Daily Personal Development Tip: Read 10 pages a day.
Relationships in my opinion are one of the most important factors in one’s life. Whether it is family, friend, or romantic relation the people one is closest to shape and guide who the person becomes. When things get tough seek to strengthen your relationships with friends and family, rather than hiding it or letting the trouble get in the way. Too much focus on financial gain can interfere with relationships if one spends an excessive time working while neglecting the people around them. Behavior such as this may in the end leave them without the support and connection that close relationships provide. One may make more money than they ever have before, but they will not have the time to cultivate the necessity of healthy and lasting relationships.
- Daily Tip: Check in on your friends.
The single aspect that will help you be successful in all of the others is happiness. According to an article by Forbes and decades of research to back it up, happiness increases the brains capabilities. When one experiences a positive emotion dopamine and serotonin are released, this enhances motor control, memory, problem solving, and motivation. Being mindful has also been shown to result in happiness. Being mindful means thinking about what is currently going on rather than letting your mind wonder to things that aren’t presently happening. So be grateful, be optimistic, count your blessings, use your strengths, and act kindly.
- Daily Tip: At the end of the day say 3 things you’re grateful for and why.
Again, as you began reading this I am sure you were looking for a post all about monetary gain, but wasn’t it? If you can manage to concentrate a bit more on the other aspects of life, and work daily to improve yourself in each of them you really are working towards financial gain. If you are physically and mental sharp, a better version of yourself than the day before, able to harvest healthy relationships, and know how to just be happy you will be outstanding in any career you choose which in the end has a financial reward.
By all means be a boss and work your ass off, just do so mindfully.
